Habitat for Humanity ReStore Elgin Introduce
For residents across the northern Illinois region, particularly those in Elgin, saving money while undertaking home improvements or furnishing a house is a significant priority. Habitat for Humanity ReStore Elgin offers a unique and highly valuable resource, positioning itself as much more than a typical second-hand shop. It is a specialized home improvement store that provides deeply discounted new and used building materials, furniture, appliances, and hardware to the public, with all proceeds supporting Habitat for Humanity’s mission to build homes in the local community.
The ReStore concept is a win-win for the Illinois community. Homeowners, contractors, and businesses donate surplus, gently used, or sometimes brand-new items, diverting quality materials from landfills. These items are then made available to local consumers at a fraction of their retail cost. This model appeals strongly to budget-conscious DIY enthusiasts, renovators, landlords, and anyone looking for unique pieces to furnish their home.
As a home improvement store, the inventory at the Elgin ReStore is diverse and constantly rotating, reflecting the generosity of the community. One visit might yield high-quality cabinets for a kitchen refresh, while the next might uncover a nearly-new Lazy Boy sofa or a significant amount of discounted lumber for a construction project. The nature of the inventory means that those who visit often are rewarded with the "better deals," as evidenced by reviews from local shoppers who have furnished entire rooms with fantastic finds.
Beyond the financial savings, shopping at the ReStore is an act of charitable giving. Every dollar spent on a $50 futon or a piece of reclaimed wood contributes directly to building affordable housing for families in need right here in the Illinois area. This social mission adds significant value, making the choice to shop here a decision that benefits both your wallet and your community.
The experience is generally one of helpful activity, with staff and volunteers—often described as "busy as bees"—working hard to manage the constant influx and flow of donations. While, like any retail environment, service experiences can vary, the core mission and the exceptional value of the used goods remain the primary draw for countless loyal customers in the Elgin and Fox Valley area.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Awesome place!! I furnished so much of my house with items from this ReStore. $50 futon with a queen size bed inside, $200 lazy boy couch with 2 recliners built in, and a matching $150 lazy boy recliner. Sometimes there are better deals to be had but their stock rotates pretty quickly so it's worth it to check every so often. The staff are all busy as bees but very friendly and helpful. Will be back again and again!
May 30 · Jiru KazunariBeen going here for a few years now. Used to be good, not anymore. Prices are too high, and the service is terrible! I walk up to the counter to pay and this lady was eating. Not too be mean but she sounded like a pig on a farm (disgusting). I stood there for about 20 seconds, she was facing me so I don't know how she couldn't see me. So I said hi, she stops eating, never says hi. Never wiped her hand just starts typing in the price. I said this nicely to her that it's not polite to eat while you're ringing up customers. She could wait until there's no customers and then pull the food from under the counter. But not her, she had her breakfast burrito right in front of people and was just smacking away! She seemed bothered that I interrupted her meal. So, she says to me, I'm a mother, I have kids, I gotta eat. That's her mentality. Then she hands me my receipt, never wiped her hands. So my receipt had her mouth and food on it. And of course, she never said thank you. My last time going here. I wonder how management will respond to this review. In fact the manager walked up and saw her eating and said nothing. One thing for sure, the employees are a reflection of the manager. The employees don't care because they know the manager doesn't either. That's what this store has become. I'll be going to Goodwill from now on.
July 16 · Mark BrooksIf you enjoy getting ripped off for used furniture then come here. Used cabinets for $225Outdoor furniture $165Bedroom furniture as high as $465Idk who is pricing their items but they need to go work at Lowe’s. Stay far away from this location. Not worth the drive.
August 17 · Joshua PflugerGreat store. Huge parking lot with some handicap parking. The store is Walker friendly plenty of space to move around. This is a homeowner play ground. Staff is helpful. Place is not AC.
July 06 · Matthew N. FullerI needed a kitchen faucet in a pinch and was able to find the perfect one that matched my sink and specifications. So grateful for the volunteer who helped me, I will definitely come back for other home items in the future!
