★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We purchased a home in Niles, and wanted to add a small kitchen in the basement and re-do the fire place in living room with a modern mantle and shelves, among other things. Being new to the area, we relied on recommendations from a friend and a real estate agent. I saw good reviews for HomeWorks construction, and gave them a call. I am so glad we did! Their communication in understanding what we wanted was outstanding, and I have to add that their workmanship and professionalism was beyond my expectations. I have worked with contractors before, but this was by far my best experience. They were honest and upfront about everything, and looked to save us money too. I cannot recommend them highly enough. We will be using them to do more work in the future!
May 20 · Craig AdamsAt the end of the day, I love my new kitchen and layout. The work that was done was great. David did an amazing job.The process however, was not great. It started on the wrong foot. The day before work was to begin, I received an email, not a phone call or text, that they pushed the start date. Because I was getting things together I did not check my email until 4:30pm. Communication was one of the biggest issues throughout the project. The project was estimated to take 6-8 weeks. It took 9 weeks before it was livable again and we are still waiting on a cabinet door to be replaced. Of those 9 weeks, there was only one week where someone came to work on the house every day. Every day that no one showed up, I would have to call or text Steve to know what was going on. At one point he responded condescendingly by saying, "well we DO have other sites". If I did not initiate communication, there was none.Dealing with some of their subcontractors was unpleasant, at best. I recognize that as subcontractors, they are out of HomeWorks control, but at the same time, by using them, it is a reflection of their own company. They left messes, would do one thing a day then say they'd have to schedule time to come back and finish. They wouldn't use the key that was left locked up so I would have to make sure I could get the garage door open for them or be there. I could go on but again, I know it is out of HomeWorks control and I did let Steve know more of the specifics. On week 9, electrical was supposed to finish and things were supposed to be installed and become move in ready. When I got home, we still had appliances in the living room. I texted and called Steve. Radio Silence. I decided to try John. John was under the impression that things were mostly buttoned up other than the appliances and texted, asking that I take pictures and submit a review. He said they don't install appliances. At this point I call poor John and unload on him. No microwave, no appliances, cardboard on the floors, tarps on the counter, empty boxes and paint cans, damages not addressed... I also explained that we spoke to Steve on multiple occasions about the appliances and he said because the electrical was so behind they would install them.John said he would call me back and when he did he set up for plumbers, electricians, drywall and David to come the following day to knock it all out. So once we got John involved, things got done.So this was a hard review because David did such a great job and everything looks beautiful, I love it. But, because of the poor communication throughout, having to deal with the subcontractors, and having to get a hold of John to let him know where things actually stood so someone could coordinate getting it done. For something that would not upend your entire household they would be fine.Steve did apologize for all of the trouble and lack of communication along the way at the final walk through. We appreciated it, but it was too little too late.
September 19 · MarissaWe contracted HomeWorks to construct a ~600 sq ft two story addition to our home last year. This involved knocking out one side of an older house, doubling the size of the kitchen, and adding a dining room and bedroom. Quick summary: we could not have been more pleased with the end results and with our interactions with HomeWorks.HomeWorks has a defined process for project management. This involves spending time upfront to define project scope and deciding all the details (even down to tile selection, as an example). Some of the contracted work was done by HomeWorks employees; some by subcontractors. We appreciated that HomeWorks was willing to accommodate our request to use our regular electrician. All the scheduling and coordination was handled seamlessly. The final result demonstrated the wisdom of the upfront planning: the work was finished on time and on budget and with no surprises.Even with all the planning, there were some (minor) mistakes and some changes as the project progressed. The mistakes were quickly acknowledged and resolved with the upmost professionalism. Some of the changes were forced by chance: our roof was damaged by a falling tree during the project. HomeWorks incorporated the repairs of the roof substructure to the project easily. Some of the changes were suggested to us by the onsite workers, based on their years of experience. Two changes in particular were great and we are grateful that their people cared enough to think about the final product. There was no nickel-and-diming by HomeWorks for any minor change. We decided to live at home during the project. We knew it would be disruptive, which it was, but the HomeWorks workers were great. They did their best to minimize the disruptions and mess and didn’t smoke or play loud music. In particular, we want to thank HomeWorks crew members Tom, Anthony, and David. All worked on multiple aspects of the project and were a pleasure to have in our home. Tom especially was concerned that we were pleased with the work and his persistence ensured that the project was completed on time. We would be remiss if we did not thank John, who shepherded the project from start to finish and was there whenever we had questions or concerns. We have already recommended HomeWorks to several of our friends; 2 families have now contracted with HomeWorks for their projects.
October 04 · Richard EichholzHuge shout out to Home Works and team members Tom, Camron, Anthony, and Ron! They all did a phenomenal job renovating our whole basement. It was reassuring to be able to trust the team with their expertise as we navigated our first renovation project. They were great at communicating and working with us with our always changing schedules. We were able to trust that our home (and dogs) were in good hands when we couldn't be present.
August 27 · Allie BrasfieldI couldn’t be happier with the complete kitchen remodel done by this amazing team! From start to finish, the experience was smooth and professional. The craftsmanship and attention to detail were outstanding, and the final result far exceeded my expectations.A special shoutout to Tom and Anthony, who were both absolutely fantastic throughout the entire project. They were both friendly, respectful, and went above and beyond to make sure we were thrilled with the outcome. If you're thinking about remodeling your kitchen, I can't recommend this company highly enough. They turned our vision into reality. Five stars all the way!
