Cabinet maker, Bathroom remodeler ★2.0

Bought a house that these people "flipped". Talk about poor craftsmanship EVERYWHERE!! Cabinets weren't hung properly (only 1 screw in some of the upper cabinets and a piece of trim holding another in place. Soft close drawers were not installed properly so they do not glide at all - it's more like a tug of war. Tile installed HORRIBLY uneven and cracked (with no cement board under the tile (and now it's starting to mold). Can lights falling out of ceiling due to holes being cut to big and an "attempt" at using silicone to hold in place. And let's not forget about the shower head that moves back and forth because it was never attached behind the wall. Sub par materials were used everywhere including the cheap cabinets (they look nice but being contractors we know garbage when we see them). Everything was purchased from the big box stores so the faucets all broke within a year (those big box store faucets have plastic insides). The problem is that we aren't wasteful so didn't just rip everything out. Now that we've been in the house a few years we are looking to remodel. Of course we will do our own work since we KNOW that we only do quality work, using quality products and won't "just get it done". Oh, and did I mention that they were supposed to come back and fix everything that we found but, of course, once the papers were signed we never heard from them again despite multiple attempts and attempts through the real estate agents. And taking them to court would have cost us more money in the end so guess what they got away with not doing...EVERYTHING!!! So happy public records let me find that this company (associated with Kenosha Racine Granite) so I could let people know what type of work/ethics this company believes in. - Stephanie Crawford

Great Lakes Cabinetry Introduce

When embarking on a home renovation in Wisconsin, particularly a kitchen or bathroom remodel, finding a reliable and full-service provider for high-quality cabinetry and countertops is essential. Great Lakes Cabinetry, located in Kenosha, aims to be that comprehensive partner for homeowners and contractors throughout the region. Operating as a design agency, cabinet maker, and countertop store, they position themselves as a one-stop-shop for the most critical elements of any residential redesign project.

The company, which associates itself with services like cabinet making, kitchen remodeling, and being a general contractor, focuses heavily on providing both the essential materials and the professional installation necessary to transform a space. Their service model centers on offering wholesale pricing on cabinetry and countertops directly to the public, offering options for either professional installation or customer pick-up, aiming to cater to a variety of project scopes and budgets.

They offer a broad spectrum of products for the entire home, specializing in the two areas that most define a home’s value and functionality: the kitchen and the bathroom. This specialization includes everything from custom-designed cabinets to a wide selection of countertop materials, positioning them as key players in the local home improvement landscape.

However, Wisconsin residents researching a company for a significant investment like a kitchen remodel must conduct thorough due diligence. Public feedback and reviews on Great Lakes Cabinetry have, in some instances, raised serious concerns regarding craftsmanship, project management, communication, and adherence to professional standards. Specific complaints have included cabinets being improperly hung with insufficient support, faulty installation of accessories like soft-close drawers, uneven tile work, and general use of sub-par materials, often leading to subsequent failures and issues like mold growth. Furthermore, reports highlight significant issues with communication, delays, and a reluctance to address defects post-contract signing, suggesting potential risks in quality control and customer resolution that potential clients must consider carefully.

An architect involved in a complex project shared a detailed account of extensive unprofessionalism, including months of delays, failure to produce accurate shop drawings, and ultimately having to hire other companies to finish work that Great Lakes Cabinetry had been contracted and paid to do. This professional testimony underscores the importance of verifying a contractor’s ability to manage complex custom orders and deliver on promised timelines and specifications. Any homeowner or contractor in Wisconsin should fully investigate these public records before making a commitment to ensure their project is handled by a team that consistently demonstrates high ethical and quality standards.

What Is Worth Choosing

The clear advantage promoted by Great Lakes Cabinetry is the potential for wholesale pricing and the convenience of a one-stop-shop for both cabinetry and countertops, which can appeal strongly to budget-conscious homeowners and general contractors in Wisconsin. Their large selection of materials, particularly in popular countertop choices like granite and quartz, provides clients with ample options for aesthetic design.

However, given the extensive and detailed negative public feedback from both homeowners and industry professionals (like the licensed architect), a cautious and highly scrutinizing approach is strongly recommended. The repeated claims of poor craftsmanship, failed installations, severe project delays, and extremely poor communication ethics—including allegations of failing to fix defects and not delivering products on promised dates—indicate a potentially high-risk situation. What is worth choosing is the lesson to prioritize quality assurance, verifiable references, and clear contractual guarantees over solely price. Prospective clients must rigorously vet the company’s current and past performance, secure clear timelines, and establish specific, enforceable quality control provisions in any contract before committing to a project with Great Lakes Cabinetry.
