Cobblestone Remodeling, Inc. Reviews

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We wanted to provide everyone with an update to the absolutely horrible situation we are in all because we hired Cobblestone Remodeling. You can read and see from the other reviews what Cobblestone has done to us and our house, and we are now on month 8 of fighting with attorneys and insurance companies trying to get our money back so we can fix all of the damage Cobblestone has done. Attached are current photos of our siding after approximately 1 year after installation (refer to the other photos in the posts for the rest of the damage Cobblestone did to our house). There is more and more separation, bowing, cracking, movement, and now areas are falling apart and disintegrating. Yet from day one of our complaint, Cobblestone has refused to acknowledge that it was installed incorrectly and that it needs to be replaced. After James Hardie (the siding manufacturer) denied our warranty claim, they recommended that we hire a licensed, third-party InterNACHI home inspector to conduct a thorough inspection of the work. Upon completion of this inspection, the final analysis was that "the Hardie siding was installed incorrectly and some of the rest of the remodeling work, such as the installation of the new gutters and various areas where the siding connected to the house also displayed poor and not-acceptable workmanship". The final recommendation from the inspector was that "the siding installation needed to be re-done by a licensed and qualified exterior contractor". And yet, Cobblestone refuses to acknowledge this, even after seeing the updated photos posted here.Lastly, please remember that Bill Conforti, the owner of Cobblestone, told me three times, in front of his employees, that he wished he could give us our money back but that he didn't have it. Please note that he now drives past our house in a new Mercedes.
January 19 · Bill LennonUPDATE: We filed a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), and Cobblestone finally responded after BBB warned them of possible loss of their accreditation. Cobblestone's response to our complaint just emphasized how horrible and unethical of a company they are, and it is absolutely disgusting what they did to our house, to us, and what they are currently putting us through.Cobblestone stated that they offered us an "amicable and favorable" resolution (which didn't even come remotely close to fixing the damage that they did), of which of course we denied. Their resolution never included removing the new siding that is currently cracking and separating from our house. Cobblestone also stated they would "rebuild porch stair treads" and do touch ups, even though the porch is not structurally sound and needs to be completely re-done. Also, as you will be able to see below, Cobblestone is a shady, unethical company and we do not trust them, nor that they are even remotely capable of fixing the 100s of mistakes they already made; hence, why we had to deny their "amicable and favorable" resolution.Cobblestone went on to say that we "stood by and watched" them leave the old siding on and put the new Hardie on top of it. This response is such a slap in the face and shows Cobblestone's true character and business ethics. They are literally trying to blame us for their incompetence. In regard to us just sitting by and watching, please note the following: 1) their contract clearly states they were to remove the old siding and re-frame any areas needed. None of this was done. 2) we IMMEDIATELY brought this up to our Cobblestone project manager and he stated it was completely fine and that we would get better insulation. 3) we are not contractors and we believed AND TRUSTED what Cobblestone told us. 4) Both Bill and Ryan have their office located literally within view of our house and they passed by our house almost every day, so they (and their own project manager) also "stood by and watched" them go over the old siding and could have stopped and/or corrected this at any time.Cobblestone also very recently stated that "a licensed technician from James Hardie, the manufacturer of the siding, inspected the installation and approved it. The warranty from James Hardie on the siding is in full force and effect". Note that we were at this walk-through, this technician has a personal relationship with Cobblestone, and he told me he was extremely limited with what he could say since Cobblestone was a client of his. This technician also refused to answer any of our calls or requests once we sent him photos of how our siding is literally cracking, falling apart, and separating from our house. As such, we put in a formal warranty claim through the proper Hardie corporate channel. Hardie sent out their own personal inspector to our house and after review of the claim, Hardie stated that the claim is in fact NOT WARRANTABLE and cited installation issues and irregularities in framing and sheathing that voided the warranty. As you can see, we have been lied to, manipulated, blamed, and scammed since day 1. We have so many other items showing how horrible Cobblestone has been, but lucky for Cobblestone there is a character limit here.In summary, Cobblestone is beyond incompetent and shady. It's absolutely ridiculous that they are fighting this, putting us through this misery/potential lawsuit, and now blaming US. Ryan is your typical salesman that promises you the world and then pretty much disappears once you sign the contract and put down the deposit. Bill is your typical unethical contractor that cashes your checks within hours of payment, while he drives past your disaster of a project daily in his nice car (after turning off of Clybourn (aka Honorary Bill Conforti Way)), and then admits that you deserve your money back, but then tells you he doesn't have it, all while he pats you on the back and says "I hope we can still be friends". Yes, this all happened.Take a look at Cobblestone's "professional" work...
August 13 · Mary LennonI love my new porch and house facelift. I have been living with my remodeled home for several months and I still feel delighted with the curb appeal. My house went from a 20-year old tired, rickety front porch to one that now looks brand new. The transformation was possible due to Cobblestone's design and crews' workmanship. Ryan stayed with me through several design changes and was so helpful and responsive and offered lots of great ideas. And, Ryan was unflappable when things did not go exactly as I had hoped. Keith watched over the finishing details and took the worry out of my project-ending checklist. Over the course of the several months, I always felt like I was in good hands. I am glad I chose Cobblestone for my project.
April 02 · Stephanie THiring Cobblestone for our home renovation turned into an absolute nightmare (with no current end in sight) despite our initial optimism based on a local recommendation, online reviews, proximity (their office is on our block), and our desire to support a local business. We planned extensive renovations on our century-old home, including replacing siding with Hardie, new windows and gutters, and redoing our porch.Initially meeting with Ryan (salesman) and Bill (owner) in March 2023, we were assured top-tier service, contractors, and craftsmanship (all akin to HGTV standards) due to our proximity which would allow them to showcase our home to future clients. We wholeheartedly trusted Cobblestone from day 1 and did not even seek any other quotes from other contractors. We signed a contract and paid a deposit by May 2023, expecting completion by Fall 2023 (as promised by Cobblestone).Work did not start until October 2023 due to delays reportedly attributed to Cobblestone's line-of-credit issues with suppliers. We were assigned a newly hired project manager (Ed, who has since been let go), who we also wholeheartedly trusted. Progress was EXTREMELY sporadic with persistent supply issues reportedly caused by Cobblestone's incompetence.Critical issues arose early when Cobblestone disregarded contractual obligations to remove existing siding layers, opting to install Hardie over aging asphalt siding and dry rot even though the very first line item of their contract was “Full removal of disposal of existing siding. Replace framing and decking board as needed.” When discussed with Ed, he stated everything was perfectly fine and that we would get better insulation this way. Again, we trusted Cobblestone wholeheartedly.Throughout the prolonged project (now into Spring 2024), our concerns mounted over shoddy porch work, literally 100s of areas of cosmetic defects, separating/sloppy caulk everywhere, improperly installed gutters damaging our roof, and trim that was already cracking and discolored. At this point, we really started to feel like we were being taken advantage of and lied to, so we decided to contact several other professionals to get a second opinion of the work that had been conducted to date. When the other contractors saw our house, ALL were appalled by what they saw. Extremely unprofessional cosmetic/design deficiencies aside, they all stated that the Hardie siding should have NEVER been installed on top of the old asphalt siding, and LP trim should not have been used. There were also serious issues noted with the windows since the siding company caulked over the weepholes. We had numerous Hardie contractors, attorneys, and construction managers look at our house/contract and the same things were noted: this is not a cosmetic/patch/repair job; this is a complete tear-off and re-do of the entire project, we now needed a new roof (our roof was fine when this started), and we had every right to ask for our money back.Even though Ryan and Bill are literally steps from our house, neither contacted us and/or took control of the situation, even though construction had been going on for OVER 5 MONTHS. Ryan only got involved after we had other the contractors look at the work and they all called out major, critical deficiencies. Bill only got involved AFTER WE CONTACTED HIM at the 6 month mark, even though he can see our house from his office and he drives past our house almost every day. When we started the discussions with Bill about refunding our money so we can start this over with reputable contractor, Bill said to us (on three separate occasions, in front of his own employees) that he wished he could give us our money back, but that they had a rough year and he didn't have it.Hiring Cobblestone was absolutely the worst decision we could have ever made. We truly regret hiring them and want this nightmare to end. Bill, Ryan, and all of Cobblestone should be ashamed of their actions.
July 10 · Bill LennonWe engaged Cobblestone Remodeling, Inc. after receiving 4 bids to re-side our single-family house. Their bid was competitive but not the lowest, but it was very thorough, and I felt that Ryan Walz would be good to work with. That was certainly the case. Cobblestone was organized, communicated well with us, and the project turned out great. They hired qualified sub-contractors who were hard workers, responsive and completed the work in a timely manner. I strongly recommend hiring Cobblestone for your construction project.
