We recently embarked on an extensive home renovation project involving the complete gutting of the first floor, including the kitchen, and removing walls to create an open floor plan. Our home, situated at the bottom of a hill, presented unique challenges, but choosing Avalon for this renovation was the best decision we could have made. From the very beginning, Avalon impressed us with their thorough and insightful approach. John walked through our home, understanding our vision, and provided detailed opinions and possibilities based on the existing structure. Their deep knowledge of construction, even of a 30+ year-old home, was evident. They quickly identified what was feasible and what was not, given the structural constraints, reassuring us that we had chosen the right builder. Despite having much larger projects, Avalon made us feel as if we were their only client. Every meeting, email, and site visit received their full attention. The entire team’s meticulous attention to even the smallest details ensured that our vision came to fruition. Our primary focus was on the kitchen and family area, where our family spends most of its time. One significant obstacle was a plumbing issue that threatened our dream kitchen layout. However, John, along with the plumber, reworked the plumbing creatively, resulting in a more efficient plumbing system and the kitchen of our dreams. John's attention to detail and knowledge were remarkable. I had always envisioned a fireplace as the focal point of the family area. I presented my color and material suggestions for the fireplace to John, and thankfully, he took the time to guide me. He recommended the correct colors, materials, and brought in a contractor to transform our fireplace into a stunning centerpiece. John's expertise, along with the contractor's skill, turned what could have been a nice feature into something truly amazing. Moreover, every time I mentioned the contractor's name to manufacturers of the porcelain slab we ultimately chose, (thanks to John’s sage advice), they said that this company revolutionized full slab porcelain installation. Avalon worked within our timeline and budget, understanding our need to move in by a specific date. They presented a schedule that accounted for potential delays, and we moved in on the exact date, overjoyed with the results. Even after we moved in, John came through the house a week later to address any touch-ups needed after the movers. He scheduled these final few items around our busy schedules, ensuring everything was perfect. I would recommend Avalon, John, and Shelby with 110% confidence to family and friends. Their knowledge, experience, and foresight were invaluable assets. Additionally, their kindness during the stressful renovation process was truly appreciated. After working with several other contractors in the past on major remodels, John and Avalon Construction & Design are by far the most professional and detailed contractors that we have ever worked with. We first met John and Shelby at Avalon when our original contractor backed out of our master bathroom remodel two days before they were to start saying that the project was too complicated for them. John came in and assured us that Avalon was more than capable of handling our complex master bathroom project. John’s attention to detail and professionalism has set him apart from his competition.Since the master bathroom remodel John and Avalon have completed a 3,500 square foot multi-level patio and a master bedroom fireplace installation, all done to the same quality of workmanship as the master bathroom.We will continue to use John, Shelby and Avalon for our other remodel and construction projects and highly recommend anyone else wanting to undertake a remodel or custom build project to contact them.

We hired John and Avalon Builders to build our dream home in 2015. This was our 1st custom project and we didn't anticipate the number of decisions that needed to be made along the way. We hired John Elias and his team at Avalon to build our home in South Barrington and had an outstanding experience throughout the entire process. We initially started the design process working with another design and build firm, but decided to cut ties after the architectural plans were completed and look for a different builder. With the prior firm, we experienced a host of issues during the design phase (e.g. lack of communication, missed deadlines, did not listen to our input, etc.) and knew it would have been an extremely frustrating build process. John Elias was recommended to us and it was a great experience from the initial bid conversations through the build. It was obvious from the beginning that John was different than other builders. He was transparent from the start and throughout on costs and any changes (which will happen). He also provided attention to detail on every aspect of the build process that I don’t think you’ll find with other builders. From recommendations on how to improve functional/design aspects of the house to the finer details, he ensures the house is of the highest quality. I can’t count how many times he brought up different recommendations for our house that created more work for him, but really improved various aspects of our home. He is also someone who is a pleasure to work with and always makes himself available. He would spend hours at the house with us and never made us feel rushed. I can’t recommend John and his team more highly for any remodel or custom home build!
